RODS: regarding rod sizes, by far the most used rod at Strobel is an eight weighted, fast action preferred, either 9 or 10 ft long. Some anglers choose a 7 or 9 wt rod. So, from a 7 to a 9 that´s perfect for Strobel. For Barrancoso River a 6 wt rod, 9 or 10 ft long is perfect, where you could also very well use a 7 wt. For the smaller lakes in our Estancia, a 7 wt rod is perfect, while many anglers use the same rod as at Strobel lake, which is totally fine.
REELS: you need a reel that has a good smooth drag, and a large arbor one, to be able to have at least 100 yards of 20 to 30 lbs. backing.
FLIES: there are several favorite ones, and among those, scud patterns can be operative. Also medium to small size streamers with good action are effective as well, such as black bead head woolly buggers. Some anglers prefer to tie them with a longer tail than the usual proportion of the same length as the body. It may add a lot more action if the fly has at least one and half the length of the body. Other flies, I like, are for nymphs, Cooper John, Prince nymph, Pheasant tail. Dry flies: we use a lot of big attractor flies, such as Chernobyl ant, Fat Albert, Chubby Chernobyl, Parachute Madam X. One especially important thing regarding flies: you always want to have the best quality hooks possible, with strong wire, as you don´t want to lose one of those big
