SECURE

Week number 14 brought four American guests to Sécure, including a couple undertaking their very first jungle dorado experience and two anglers — Pepe and Sandy — who are very experienced dorado fishermen. Both Pepe and Sandy have fished with Untamed several times before in Brazil and Bolivia, and are very experienced at playing dorado on the fly.

We experienced very irregular weather conditions, with changing temperatures and a mix of both rainy and sunny days. Despite the mixed weather, everyone got into awesome fish, with a good number of large fish (several over 20 lbs.) lost in fast pockets and runs far up the river, or in deep holes under logs and other structure on the lower sections. The moody weather conditions meant that the dark profiles of pacú were difficult to spot, but some did take our flies and were, as they often are, 100% effective in winning the battle.

Our largest fish of the week was an 18-lb. dorado, caught on the home pool by Daniel Perkins.

PLUMA LODGE

This week we fished with six American anglers, all on their first trip with us. The weather was beautiful most of the week, with some rains and high water towards the end which made the fishing more difficult. Before the rains hit, all the beats were productive with the main Pluma producing two fish over 20 lbs. and a 22-lb. dorado caught by guest Kelly. 

The upper sections presented low and clear conditions, and Curtis and Anthony made the most of it with a double hookup on two 13-lb. fish in the Itirizama. The Lower Secure was more affected by the rains, producing slower fishing, but we saw an 18-lb. fish caught by Jimmy before the rain hit.

AGUA NEGRA

This past week we had all kinds of conditions, ranging from very hot temperatures early on, then some cooling rains at the end of the week. Both the Agua Negra and the Sécure fished quite well, giving us many chances for sight fishing some very nice fish. By the end of the week the rain made the rivers dirty, but we still had the chance to get some good dorado and a big catfish.

Over the course of the week, we landed more than 10 fish over 15 lbs., and three around 20 lbs. Our largest fish of the week, caught on the main Sécure River, was a 22-lb. dorado.
