What a trip!
Fred Michaud- December 2022:
Fred and his son came to Argentina. They spent a day playing golf in Buenos Aires and then took a flight to Patagonia to do fly fishing. They even got to experience the World Cup Final between Argentina and France. We love to share his feedback with you:
My son and I flew from the US to Buenos Aires in mid-December of 2022 and spent a few days enjoying the city and the food. While there, we arranged through Pointer Outfitters for a day of golf at a course about 40 kilometers outside Buenos Aires. With car fare, club rental, and greens fees it was an expensive excursion, but the experience was worth it. We then headed west to our Pointer Outfitters fly fishing destination. We flew to Neuquén and were met by a wonderful gentleman who turned out to be our fishing guide for much of our trip. We then drove through the countryside, including through a group of gauchos on horseback driving a heard of animals to their summer pastures, and ended up in the small village of Caviahue-Copahue near the Chilean border. One of a fantastic cluster of lodges in a beautiful setting turned out to be our home base for the next 5 days. Four other anglers occupied two other lodge building, so there was a total of six of us for the week.
Each day, we were first treated to a delicious breakfast at the main lodge and then driven to a spectacular setting for our day of fly fishing. Each pair of anglers had their own vehicle and guide for the day. The beauty of the mountains, the sky and the landscape were breathtaking. Each day we fished a different destination, sometimes a lake and other times a river. Most of the fishing was with nymphs or streamers, although my son caught a beautiful brown trout on a hopper pattern. All of the fish I caught were rainbows, but my son landed a brown, a huge brookie and numerous rainbows. We broke for lunch every day and drove a short distance to a shelter where the guides had a grill and prepared our lunch. At the end of the fishing day, we returned to the lodge to be greeted by the chef bearing a tray full of snacks and the waiter bearing a tray full of drinks. Later, we were treated to a wonderful dinner and the companionship that goes with a perfect day.
We were fortunate to be in Argentina during the world cup and the last day at the lodge was the finals between Argentina and France. We quit fishing early that day and went back to the lodge so that our guides (and we) could see the game. There was lots of cheering and celebration as Argentina won the world cup. Later we drove back to Neuquén, stayed overnight at a local motel, flew to Buenos Aires the next morning and then on home.
It was one of my bucket-list trips and I still dream of the scenery and the time I had with my son in Buenos Aires and in Patagonia. I could not have asked for a more pleasant and exciting trip, made possible by the people at Pointer Outfitters and their attention to all of our needs, including the food needs of my son who is a vegetarian. Thank you Pointer.
We were delighted to hear about your trip Fred. We had a great time with you. Thank you.
