Fishermen will stay in traditional Mongolian gers which are felt tents wrapped around a collapsible wooden frame.  These are located on scenic stretches of the river in the remote outback of Mongolia.

The Camps in Mongolia

The camps and all of their equipment are owned by our long-time outfitter, Hovsgol Travel Company.  Hovsgols camps are strategically positioned to enable fishermen to access over 120 combined miles of river by boat. The camps are isolated wilderness facilities with very limited access to the outside world, which enhances the fishery and the adventure experience. Our fishermen have provided glowing reports about the standard of service and level of comfort at our outfitters camps.

Each camp is equipped with a dining lodge overlooking the river, bathhouse and shower facility, 110 and 220 volt electricity, and are as well equipped as any lodge in Mongolia. We continue to make improvements to our facilities each season. We do have satellite phones in camp, but we do not have internet available at camp.

They are 9 feet high and 18 feet in diameter, much larger than standard wall tents.  They are equipped with framed full-length single beds, ample room for storing gear, and an area to sit down, hot water for washing your hands and face, and a sitting area for relaxing by the wood stove. Each ger accommodates two fishermen.Like many operators, our first few seasons provided more than our fair share of challenges on the culinary front. During our fifteen years, however, we have sent professionally trained chefs to our camps to train the Mongolian staff, and, along with the availability of fresh produce in UlaanBaatar, our food is a very welcome addition to a comfortable camp experience.At Sweetwater, we have always strived to insure that you feel at home in our lodges.
